Usually my boy is wonderful about letting me groom him, play with his paws, massage his gums, and clean his ears and eye area..but I cannot clip his nails. He gets very frightened and the situation quickly becomes dangerous. He gets panicked if he even sees the nail clipper.. I’m not sure how to get him used to the process. Nail clipping has never hurt him either. :/

Definitely have a second pair of hands to help you!! My boy is great, my girl hates it. I have my husband hold her down and put a small towel over her eyes. Obviously make sure nose and mouth isn’t covered so bunny can breathe. Covering the eyes helps my girl to calm down. Worst case, I would say to have a vet do it. Best of luck.

I turn mine on their backs to do it. I know it terrifies them, but it keeps them from thrashing around and hurting themselves or bumping my hand so i cut the quick (and I’ve been doing it this way for years, they don’t hate me yet lol). This only works on my Dutch, though. Larger rabbits are almost impossible to turn over, so with them I just follow them around, pet them and get them to relax, and trim a few nails at a time until they move. It can take a while, but its safe.

What works best for me is wrapping mine in a towel in bunny burrito style. I normally sit in a chair and hold them sitting up/leaning between my side and left arm. I take one paw out at a time as I go. I have also done it standing with them sitting on a countertop but used the same general hold. This also worked well. We end our clipping sessions with oats as a treat.

I have seen a tip that if you push a mesh ribbon over their nails this helps push back the fur around the nails and it makes the process easier. I haven’t tried this yet.

My bunnies have gotten used to this and they got used to it pretty quickly. I will say though I do wish I didn’t have one with black nails .

Nail clipping my BunBun is still the Bane of my Existence! I am reduced to feeling like I should keep a pair of clippers on my person at all times just in case I get that chance to get a tiny bit of a sneak a clip!
