Hi everyone! I seem to have encountered a slight issue. My baby girl, Bundles, has had weight issues ever since I got her. I rescued her from a drug abuse case about a year and a half ago when she was only a year old. She was extremely malnourished. She doubled in size when I got her, but stayed on the small end for her breed. Ever since then she has gone underweight from time to time. Daily, she gets unlimited hay, some veggies which is usually spring mix some times with a mini carrot or broccoli on top, a small amount of pellets, and the occasional piece of fruit as a treat. From what I have read, she should be healthy, but I just can’t figure it out. She is not acting sick or in pain, like she did when she got GI stasis several months ago. Could this just be a side effect from her past? Should I be worried?

How much weight loss are you talking about? Do you weigh her regularly or just notice a change in her body condition?

If her diet is unchanged, then the weight loss is most likely the result of something else. The first thing that usually comes to mind for me is dental issues. Bunnies that have problems with their teeth have trouble properly grinding down the food properly and this can result in weight loss. However, there are lots of other health issues that can cause a bunny to lose weight. But strange it comes and goes.

When was the last time she saw a vet? Did she have her teeth checked?

Her teeth are fine, she lets me check them. She saw the vet in October and he said her teeth are fine as well. Her diet has not changed either. As far as how much weight, she feels like skin and bones now. When she loses weight, she loses a lot very quickly. She is usually around three pounds, but if I had to guess her current weight I would guess 2 pounds? 2.5 at best? I have no accurate way to weigh her since she and I are on winter break and our things and our vet are over an hour away.

You can’t see her molars without an otoscope so only the vet can see that. This makes me think she has a parasite, like tapeworm that is taking the food from her. Does she have white looking things in her poop?

If you have a human scale you can get on with her and then get on without her and subtract the last weight to see how much she is.

Yeah, I would definitely have the vet check her out. Bring a poop sample to check for parasite and my vet always does bloodwork when it’s an issue of weight loss.

Her poop looks clear, but it is looking like a vet trip is my only option. Thank you for all of your help. I am going to take her in as soon as possible.
