I know how frustrating this habit is! My house is almost all wall to wall carpet, bunny room included. A low pile carpet and tiles has helped my situation immensely! My wall to wall carpet isn’t low enough so I have added some low pile 5×7 and 3×5 area rugs over the wall to wall carpet. There are some areas that aren’t covered but the hot spots are. I use heavy tile to cover the corners, in front of the door to the closet, on both sides of their cages (where they liked to dig to try and get behind them) and right by the baby gate used to block the room. These are the spots where they insisted on digging or chewing at. It is annoying having to clean the room with all these area rugs and tiles and also having to pick up a tile just to get stuff from the closet but it works.
I only wish I knew what the hot spots were going to be before some minor damage had already happened. You might be able to get away with just the tiles if you focus on those types of areas. I know it doesn’t look pretty but it’s worth it.
I don’t know your situation but this patchwork is only done in their room. For the rest of the house I just monitor them when they are out. So far there has been only one corner in the living room that they have decided to try and pull up and this can be remedied with one tile. I have tried using the ‘no’ and redirect technique but they want to go immediately back. I find that once they have their mind set on the carpet it’s difficult to change their mind. You can provide more enrichment and toys to try and help curtail it but this didn’t work for me.
