I rescued a bunny over Christmas time and bought her back up to live with me. She was settling well for a while but the last few days she has been unwell with GI Stasis (got disanosed yesterday January 10th) and I have been giving around the clock medication admin and water (syringe fed). It’s now the next day and the vets gave me more meds this morning and along with more critical care & told me if she had not pooped at all during the day to call out of hours as I was meant to be going away this weekend (we’ll get to that in a second) so I’m continuing to do what’s required of me, even throughout the night but I don’t seem to be getting anywhere – I’ve administered pain relief but I feel as if she’s still in pain cuz I can hear teeth grinding every now and again. I know this many be considered ‘early days’ but I’m meant to be going away tomorrow for the weekend and a sitter was meant to be coming in to help with her. The other option was to keep her in the hospital but they gave me a total of £495 just to stay there, not including any medication but I’m a struggling student who really doesn’t have that type of money. Please let me know if this is normal & how to help her: I’ve been randomly crying all day and I know it’s due to stress (however silly that may sound)

How long should I give it? Should I just take her to the hospital and pay? Is there anything else I can do at home? She hasn’t pooped all day, not at all but I’m giving her critical care and also liquid critical care alongside pain killers, a gut motivating medication and something else. I’m at a loss and really struggling.

Also, honest opinions please – do I go to my weekend away and trust the sitter or do I cancel my trip and tend to her myself? (Sitter will only be visiting twice per day)

I don’t think it’s silly at all to cry for an animal you are adopting that is ill and might die. I cried when I found out my new bun had kidney failure.

I don’t know how important your trip is but I would not go myself. I would be really miserable and regretful if I went on the trip and the rabbit died. If I stayed and it died anyway I would be really sad but at least I would have done what I could.
