I have a little agouti buns called Crunchy, who likes to poo EVERYWHERE. When I adopted little Crunch, he came with additional care; when he was a baby his mother and rest of his litter died from a disease caused by dirty living arrangements. So without a mother, crunchy was hand raised and well… he doesn’t know how to rabbit.
Now, Crunch knows how to use a litterbox. He’s in there most of the time chowing down on his hay. Even though he uses this litterbox all the time, he still leaves little landmines ALL over the house, multiple times a day.
Here’s the run down of my unsuccessful attempts at getting this guy 100% litter trained:
When we brought him home, he was in a small pen with the litterbox, food and water. Not much room for error (but there was).
I changed their eating arrangements so he HAS to be in the litterbox to eat (still poos everywhere).
I pick up his poo and spray with a neutral spray to remove the scent and show him that’s not his litter box.
I give him pats and treats when he DOES use the litter box.

I feel like I’ve tried everything. He has a great role model, Queen Latifa the Original Buns, but he just frees his bowels wherever he pleases. No Pees, just Poos.

He is neutered, and that was done at a very young age before he reached full maturity (before we adopted him).

Can anyone help!? I feel like I am going out of my mind here, with this little free-pooping antichrist rabbit!

        Many thanks xx

I believe he is doing this because there are other bunnies in the house, he is trying to show that he is the top bunny now in the house. I don’t know what you can do about this as I only have 1 bunny, she is a Holland Lop Mini, she litter boxed trained herself and has full run of my house. my friend has 4 bunnies, 3 he had for a year and just added the 4th bunny and he is doing what your bunny is doing. he has to keep the new 4th bunny in a different section of the house which keeps him from peeing and pooping everywhere, but as soon as he let’s him in the section of the house where the other 3 are he starts peeing and pooping everywhere. hope this helps.

            Thanks for your message!

The pecking order has already been well established in the rabbit realm here, so I don’t think it’s to show he is the top dog. Crunchy is, for the most part, litter trained. He doesn’t wee anywhere other than his litterbox and also poops in there, too. He just also poops around the house, too.
Thanks for the message though, much appreciated!

If it’s just poop, then it’s likely territorial marking. The the poops have a sheen to them and/or have an onion-y smell?

I will also mention that my bunny will poop in every corner of the exam room at her vet every time I take her there, I have the doctor check her over every 3 months. the doctor told me that every bunny does this in her office even ones that are litter boxed trained. so I feel it has to be a territorial thing as LBJ10 stated.

I see. I figured if it were territorial it would have subsided by now, because he’s been with us for over 6 months and is very much the non-dominant rabbit next to QL. And she doesn’t do the same to ‘re-mark’.
I’ve also never had that trouble at the vet with either of the rabbits.
The poops in question are just regular rabbit poops, no cecotropes or onion smells being left behind!
