I have 2 neutered 2 year old female rabbits (one is a lion head) who get along pretty well. I have recently fallen in love with a beautiful baby male lion head rabbit at a pet store that i’ve been thinking of introducing to my 2 females.

I am under the impression that bonding is going to take a lot of work and i’m going to have to neuter the male beforehand if this is going to work. I just need to know whether or not this is the best idea? Would it be fair on the rabbits to do this?

I just want to make sure before I make a decision.

          Hi there, welcome

I know that feeling, every time I buy hay from my rescue I ponder the logistics of a trio…

It’s very possible to have a trio, but you do need to wait until the male is neutered and his hormones have settled before trying it. It is also not uncommon for the original duo to split up during the trio process, so you should be prepared to house all three separately during bonding if needed. Sometimes just the smell of a stinky unneutered bun in the house will upset existing bonds. You’ll also want to consider what you’ll do with the new boy if you aren’t successful with the trio.

How difficult was the bond between the girls?
