Hi. So I have a problem with litter training one of my rabbits since I got him. Carmen the rex rabbit who is neutered is hard to litter train. He likes to pee on beds and couches rather the litterboxes. When I see hes about to go and pee then I say No and sometimes clap and quickly move him/he runs to his litterbox or he tries to run away knowing he has to go to his litterbox. I’ve been trying many things. Not clean up his pee and poo for some time, cleaned alot with vinegar and water solution, put more litter boxes around, just sprayed the vinegar-water solution on some places and tried different beddings. At the moment im using straw pellets. But still not alot of improvement. Sometimes he does go on his own to his litterbox to pee which if he does he gets praised for but most of the time I have to put him into his litterbox and then he does his things there. And yes…there is hay in the litterboxes.
I think that problem comes from that too that before he got to me he wasn’t littertrained and past owners didn’t use litterboxes since he was more kept outside I believe. When I got him then I didn’t have the other bun yet so I don’t think that habit of his is coming from it either.

Oh sometimes when I go into other rooms like for example wc or I just gotta go to outside for few mins then he uses that moment to go pee on the couch or bed but not always. Sometimes he just tries to follow me or waits for me on the end of the carpet depending if im home or not.

Oke I hope I got all the information typed in.
Any help and information is warmly welcomed.

How long has he been neutered? I believe they can still have hormones for quite a while afterword. Is he free roam? I personally started my bun off with a fairly small area until he was usuing the litter box fairly consistently, and then slowly expanded it. He still has accidents because he’s not neutered yet, but he goes in his litter box more often than not. I wipe up his accidents as soon as I see them and will put the paper towel in his litter box so it smells like him. Then I spray the spot with a water vinegar mix and soak that up as well to neutralize the smell. Like I said, he’s still having accidents but I know he’s just marking his territory.

He has been neutered for a long time now. He got neutered in 21 May 2018. At night time and when im not home for more than few mins then he is in its enclosure. I have also tried with when he pees somewhere then soak it up to a paper towel then put it into his litterbox, with poop picked it up and also into litterbox and kept him in smaller area but that doesn’t seem to work well. And he doesn’t like to stay in a smaller area even tho his enclousure is quite big.

You could try positive reinforcement. Treat him for using the litterbox.
