My rabbit Nova has been having a lot of eye fluid around her eye. The fluids have caused her hair to matte and harden. The color of the fluids are sometimes transparent or a thick white color. I have noticed that her eye has become irritated and she has had some hair loss around left eye. I have been trying to use warm water and a comb to help her eye, but it does not seem to work. I have noticed that it is not getting better and her eye problem also caused her to sneeze quite a bit lately.

I would like to know if there is any medicine like eye drops or home remedies that I could give her that could help her eye problem? I would also like your guys opinions on what could have caused this and if this could be conjunctivitis?

Thank you for any advice you have, and I have inserted some photos of her left eye, they are creepy lol.

Has this been happening since she developed head tilt?

It’s not uncommon for the eyes to do this as they’re not draining properly due to the altered position of the head. You can get the opposite problem also, with the eye becoming too dry. Particularly the down-facing eye.

You could apply lubricating eye drops that contain acetylcysteine. That can help break down the gunk & clear some congestion.

The hair loss is due to the fur there being constantly wet. There isn’t a lot you can do until the head-tilt improves or eye starts drains correctly.

Years ago, a member here used a solution for cleaning around the eye but I forget the name. I’ll search older hreads to see if I can find it.

Holding a warm wet cloth against the eye can be soothing and help might help clear things somewhat.

What meds is she on for the head tilt? Hopefully they will also address the sneezing.

She is no longer taking medication, but when we had her on medication she was on enrofloxacin, pain and inflammation medicine. Her eye problems have started since she had her head tilt. Her head tilt seems to be getting better, but she still has a slight head tilt.
