        Hi everyone,

Hope everyone is having a happy holiday season! My bunny Lilly is fairly new in our household. We’ve had her for about 2.5 months now. Sometimes when she lays down to rest/nap, her jaw will start quivering/trembling. This only ever happens when she is resting. She was diagnosed with slight molar spurs a little over a month ago and recently had a second checkup to check progress and they hadn’t changed much so her vet decided against filing them down. Because she was a rescue and we know her diet wasn’t the greatest prior to her being with us he told us to just watch her behavior and have her eat tons of hay. She is eating regularly and doesn’t show any indication of being in pain. Is anyone familiar with this behavior? Ive tried researching it and can’t seem to find much on it except for one rabbit behavior article and the writer chalked it up as one of the behaviors he was unsure of the reason for.

My boys chatter their teeth/quiver their jaw when they’re napping. It’s how I know they’re feeling relaxed and snoozing.

As A&B says, buns often chatter their teeth when they are relaxed and content. It’s called “tooth-purring”. When a bun grinds it teeth in pain, it’s a louder, choppier noise and the bun is absolutely not relaxed.

Good to know  It scared me when I first saw her do it, i’ve never seen Bunny do it before. Thank you!
