Lily is on medication twice a day for the rest of her life due to her megacolon. She hates it. She loves her other medication. For the other one I just walk up to the fence and give it to her. For the new one I have a very hard time no matter what I do. It doesnt matter if I hold her or set her on the roof of her hutch, she refuses to take it. What is an easier way to do it?

Goodness me how stressful. I didn’t know Lily had megacolon.

Are you able to bunny burrito her? Or is it possible to put the medication on something tasty?

If I remember, you’re quite crafty? How are you with baking? I’m wondering if you could bake a treat incorporating the medication? Obviously ask a vet if that is okay as I don’t know whether it will effect the medicine but if you get the go -ahead, you could make a treat with pellet mash/hay, medicine and then something fruity?

I always squirt Bombur’s meds on his greens, and if the meds are in the morning I cut up a baby carrot and squirt it on that.

Wick, I have tried that but im worried it will injure her neck. She won’t always eat her vegetables, she’s getting better but still she wont always eat it. I have tried bunny burrito but every time I press the thing on the syringe she yanks her head away so it misses her mouth. Yes, I love crafts and baking. I believe the vet said she wanted to see them again soon so I will ask her about baking something. I wonder if I could mix mashed banana with her medication?

You could always just phone the vet to ask. That way you don’t have to wait til you see them to query

Mashed banana yes! I think a lot of people here often recommend mixing medicines with mashed banana so that might work and you wouldn’t need to bake (altho you could if u wanted, make a ‘cookie’ with the medicine, banana and pellets or something) I’m just concerned about whether that would be too much fruit in the long run? But I suppose you could cut down on the amount of banana gradually so she’s only getting a teensy amount.

She only gets 0.14 twice a day so it wouldn’t take much bananas

Perhaps try the banana then! I also found a video from Cooper the Pooper that shows a different front-restrain technique. Rather than fingers around the neck, it’s more so holding your hand in front of the neck as a support and block: http://www.facebook.com/CooperthePoopr/videos/243754219628024/

I have tried that method but she kept biting my hand.

What an ordeal. It’s good that you’re trying your best to give her the medication. How has it been? Did you find a good method for you and her?

I have been getting her to take it using a different method. I keep trying to get her to take it and she eventually gets annoyed and bites it, then I press the syringe. I saw this method a while back on this site
