So I’ve had my buns for 3.5 years now. I’ve lived in my apartment for 1.5 years. Just recently has my “bad bun” started acting out (Both males are neutered). He continuously runs down the hall and chews up the carpet and scratches at the bedroom door. I go down there and say/yell no and squirt him with the squirt bottle, and he just runs down the hall binkying….He goes right back over and over. I’ve sprayed vinegar on the carpet and that doesn’t work. I’ve put a baby gate up in front of that spot and he just chews the carpet in front of the gate. He doesn’t do this anywhere else but right in front of the bedroom door. Does anyone has any ideas why he’s acting out all of a sudden? Nothing in his life or routine has changed. Does he think it’s a game or something? Also, any ideas on how to stop this behavior would be great.

Is he fixed? They may be something that is causing descriptive behavior. Also, he might have some molar spurs or something that is causing him to chew and dig. Has he seen a vet lately?

Some bunnies do randomly start digging and chewing, it’s in their nature. It’s not a health thing usually either, but the chewing could be if his teeth aren’t good. You can’t really train it out of them. They are burrowers and they are chewers. Please don’t yell or use a squirt bottle on a bunny as it can be traumatizing to them and make them afraid of you. You can block that portion of the house with a baby gate or a pen, or you can find thing for him to chew and dig and leave it in that spot. Old blankets, a hay mat, a dig box filled with paper, apple sticks.
