Hi all, I have a brother and sister pair of 10.5 week old Nethies, have had them now for 2 weeks.
The boy has had a damp/wet nose since I brought them home. I noticed when I touched it that I had a little spot of wet on my finger.
I took both of them to the vet 2 days ago for a general check up and to talk about desexing etc.
He is an early bloomer and already has balls ready to go, so I just have to get his weight up a bit more so he can get the chop.
They have been separated so we don’t have any accidents!
Anyway, I had the vet listen to their breathing and check noses, and it all sounded clear and she could not see anything issues.
There has been no snot at all, and he has only sneezed once, about a week ago, and I’m pretty sure that was only because he had buried his head in the hay bowl and got it all over his face!
He has very high energy levels, good appetite, drinks plenty, lots of binkying and fun.
When he lays down to relax, he does sometimes have his head down like most other buns I’ve seen, but he does quite often hold his head up too. Not as in head facing the roof or anything, but not head down on the ground like normal relaxing posture.
He is a bit hard to cuddle but I put that down to getting used to humans and also to hormones kicking in.
I am not sure if I am just being super paranoid, but I keep worrying that something must be causing the wet nose.
I have googled and come up with pastuerella (snuffles) but he doesn’t have any symptoms other than the wet nose and possible strange relaxing position.
Does anyone else have a wet nose bun who is healthy and no obvious cause?
Does anyone else have a bun who lays like this?
I am in Australia so it is summer right now, 30-35 degrees Celsius, so am also wondering if perhaps it’s heat related?
Or maybe because Nethies are a bit more of a squished face breed so maybe their nasal passages are more compressed like pug dogs etc?
        Thank you!

That is quite possible. They do better with the cooler air. Rabbits that have “snuffles” get congested nasal passages and lots of owners note that the condition worsens in the warmer months. But even rabbits without respiratory conditions will respire more rapidly if they are too hot. That could lead to a damp nose.

          Yes, this is possible also.

Are you using any wood litter or bedding? That can cause some irritation and wet or even runny nose.

His sister doesn’t have the wet nose happening.
I am using Proteq horse bedding as litter, it’s fantastic for keeping the mess contained and doesn’t smell at all.
I feel like I can see these guys nostrils so much more than I could see my last Nethie’s. Perhaps it’s the shape of the nasal passage, who knows.
I’m just extra paranoid because my 3.5 year old baby girl passed away so suddenly last month from a tumour and it absolutely devastated me, so I’m constantly on the lookout for issues with these guys.

My bun gets condensation / wet booplesnoot when there’s a temperature differential and he’s been breathing rapidly after playing etc. Could be that if all else is ok.

Thank you Q8bunny! Hopefully that’s all it is.
He doesn’t stop moving, this little guy is so energetic and constantly on the go.
So I’m sure he’s always breathing hard! Fingers crossed it’s that simple and my paranoia is unfounded.
Does your bun have wet fur all around the nostrils?

Paranoia is just a symptom of being a good bunny parent

The fur around his nose does get wet from the moisture in his breath (or air) but not sopping dripping soaking wet. lol Just damp enough for me to feel it if I happen to wipe his nose with my hand or get a kiss from him.
