Odd question… rabbits have large ears (even the Nethies!), so understandably, they have sensitive hearing. And from that, I assumed that means they are good at sound localization, which is identifying where something is based on hearing it. Now, I’m unsure and would like some other people’s experiences!

Wick is terrible at sound localization, especially when there’s visual stimuli closer to him. For example, Wick hears the treat bag so he knows he needs to approach the treat-holder. Two snaps from his other parent is the most loyal audio cue Wick obeys because it’s exclusively for treats. I can be next to him and his other parent will call him a couple feet away, and yet Wick just keeps circling me. There are many many times where he is definitely hearing everything, but has no idea of where the sound is coming from. So we always need to combine a hand wave, strategically in front of one of his eyeballs, for a while until he notices it.

His ear health is completely fine, and he can definitely hear, so I’d like to see how he compares to others! I think Wick just gets extremely tunnel-visioned-hearing.

Asriel could find me anytime even if I was 4 rooms away. Bombur can to a point. I think for him it depends on the distinctness of the sound and how loud it is. He usually won’t hear the pellet bag or greens opening until I’m in the room. But when I’m walking up the stairs from work he’s already there to greet me at his door.

Good? GOOD? Clover knew I was awake from the other end of the house by the way my BREATHING changed. And she’d be waiting for me. Lord I miss that rabbit.

I’ve been wondering lately if Thor is deaf. The little loaf never responds to anything, and she has to see the treat/ salad/ pellets before she will come running to me.

She’s also taken to sleeping right up against the gate to the bedroom so she’s closest to us **awwww**, but I keep scaring the bejesus out of her if I get up in the middle of the night.

However she does react when we drop loud things. I’m guessing she’s like 80% deaf

Elara uses her ginormous ears very well. I can never sneak up on her for a pic.

Honestly I’m not sure for Blossom and Thumper…. The best I can say is that the other day when they had their play time I had to leave my room multiple times and they heard me talking to my dad (and according to my mom they were looking for me), I know that doesn’t sound too grand but everyone says I have a quiet/calming voice and will ask me to speak up/repeat myself a lot.

Moonpaw has never responded to a sound. I honestly think he might be deaf. I didn’t even know some bunnies respond to their named or getting treats. :/ I have to put a treat directly under his nose to get a response out of him.

Breintjes localisation is very good and it’s fun to watch him do it. He moves his ears like a little radar to follow a person moving around, even people walking in the hallway outside. My apartment is close to the bike storage of our building, so we get a lot of traffic all day. It’s all carefully monitored and if he doesn’t trust the situation he’ll thump. I think he may have prevented a theft last year: he started to thump wildly, and when I went to check I found the storage open and the lock on the door broken.

The downside is that Breintje hears a bit too well at times, he often gets stressed. Another problem is that he can get nippy when he’s stressed, so at times it’s a real puzzle to find out what’s bothering him. There are some sounds we can’t control, like someone having a party or a music festival nearby. At times I have to take him to Bas’ place because he’s going crazy. Our little wild thing…

I voted pretty good simply because Chewie often chooses to act like he’s deaf. I’m convinced it’s selective hearing, much like my former students and old father like to engage in. ?

“I’m not deaf, I’m just ignoring you!”  Cheeky bugger!
