So I want to preface this with I’ve taken Yumi to the vet a few times about this and they are as stumped as me.
About 18 months ago Yumi was having issues with her ear, I’d noticed her holding it a bit and scratching at it more. We went to a vet that said it must just be a nervous habit or something (?)
The vet asked for a second opinion and they both concluded there was nothing wrong with her ear and did some test for ec and nothing serious came of it.

Fast forward to about 10 months ago, I took her to another vet, who also thought it was strange, she found a single ear mite, way further down than normal, and could find no more, and noticed some dry skin, so treated her for mites as a precaution and gave a cream to treat the irritation.

About three months ago the head shaking and ear holding started up again, treated it again, it seemed to get better…. And its back.

Now we are back to treating the ear. Has anyone any idea or experience of this or sonething similar ?
Honestly the dry skin seems to irritate her, but the treatment makes her so upset and seems to cause more distress and if its not working long term is there a huge point to it?

        Sorry for the long post!

          Mmm…curious…
So the dry skin is inside her ear?
What did you treat the possible mites with? I just posted about doses for this in another thread. According to medirabbit, ear mite needs a higher dose then fur mite, if using ivermectin.

Maybe try a cream of ear wash that treats fungal and yeast infections perhaps?

Chewie goes outside, it’s true, but even when he’s indoors for months due to weather, he still gets regular mites treatmet (the Revolution spot-on, which we swear by) otherwise he scratches his ears like a nutter. Can’t blame any particular batch of hay since he’s always done this, or any other pets since there are none, or the outdoors since we’ve had snow for a while.

Not sure if it helps, but worth considering.
