My female bunny, Euro, has been digging excessively lately. It seems like she is fine until I go into her enclosure and then all she does is dig. She digs on the couch in her pen and bites it and digs and digs and digs!!! I’ve tried petting her, she keeps right on digging! I try to distract her and she goes on digging. Used to she would flop out on the floor and be so happy and playful. She runs around full speed and seems to enjoy crashing into the wall. Can bunnies be crazy or is there something I can do to help her?

She’s not crazy because she’s digging. Digging is a fun activity for many rabbits. Altho she shouldn’t be running into walls. Is she simply skidding into them or is she not seeing them?

Is it normal for them to dig a lot? I think she mostly skids into the wall super hard, but sometimes she seems shocked that she ran into it.

I mean, I guess excessive digging can be due to frustration (which can be due to hormones – is she spayed?) But bunnies generally do like digging yes My girl likes digging at fleece blankets.

If she’s knocking into them because she’s skidding, is it slippy flooring? If so, a few carefully placed rugs could help prevent that. It could be that she’s looking shocked because she forgets that she can’t come to a full halt and has to slide a bit?

She has a fleece blanket and bit holes all in it, she seems to like it! She isn’t spayed yet, I think she is around four months old though. When is the earliest they can be spayed? The floor isn’t super slick, but it is pretty smooth so that could be a problem. I’ll look into getting a little rug to put in front of the wall.
