When my buns were young they were so curious. They checked everything out, they learned to push doors open… now one of them is 2 and I adopted an already-adult 3-year-old. I accidentally left their bedroom door open today, and I panicked thinking maybe they chewed a TV or phone cord, or chewed through the tortoise’s brand-new UVB tube cord… some carpet gone from the bedroom… anything!

But no, they were in their same spot as always. Even the dog food was untouched.

Don’t get me wrong, they’re incredibly mischevious. They like to kick every bit of litter out of their box once they decide it’s too full for them and snatch food out of my hands. But they just don’t venture outside of their room, or even their one corner, like they used to.

I kinda miss my adventure buns, but I guess with ages comes maturity

I think it’s as you say, it’s likely due to their age now. My rabbits tend to have a block of the day where they tuck themselves away in one spot and don’t move much from if for hours. I suppose it is like rabbit in the wild sleeping down in the burrow. Then emerging in the later part of the day.
When I had just 2 free roam buns, they stayed under a cardboard hidey house between 10am- 3,4pm. Then they’d come out around 4pm for a while and hang out in different part of the house until eveing meal time. It was a very strong routine for this pair.

I think if one of your other pets had ventured into the room, it might have roused your rabbits to then venture out. But chances are they weren’t even aware the door was open. Lol!
