Can anyone help please? My male rabbit was neutered 4 weeks ago. He is a lone rabbit as his brother died shortly after we bought them home, we have got him neutered so we can get him a friend. He is 100000000% male! He lives outside in a large, windowed garage. He’s eating and drinking normally, normal poops, normal behaviour EXCEPT he’s started nesting?! I noticed last night when I did his bed time check that he had a large amount of hay in his mouth, this morning my boyfriend had gone to give him breakfast and we have found a large amount of fur in his bedroom area along with all the hay….I can’t identify where he has pulled the fur from, he doesn’t have any bald/sore patches luckily.

I’m just wondering why he would do this? I thought only female rabbits nested?

        Thank you

Is it cold in his room? He might be trying to build a nest so he has a warm place to retreat to.

            Hi Kelly
Although not common, male rabbits can display nesting behaviour. It typically is desexed males & usually only carrying hay in the mouth. So I’m a bit suprised he is pulling fur also.

Because he was so recently desexed, it is most likely due to his hormone levels adjusting. But it could be some stress also.

Another possibility is that he is intersex and has some female organs also.

I’m sorry to hear about the other rabbit. Did he pass away recently?
