  Hi everyone! I noticed yesterday that my Holland lop has some dandruff looking white specks along her back. Yuck! I’ve noticed that some fur comes out easily when I brush her. I’ve reaseched and thought that she could have mites and heard that Revolution is an effective treatment. I and was wondering if I could treat the mites with that? I don’t have a vet and can’t afford one unless it’s a real emergency. Also, could this be mites or dry skin? Has anyone had experience with mites? I’m very concerned about her so any comments would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

  Are you able to post a picture? Some buns get dandruff when they molt, especially noticeable on dark buns.

  As for treatment against mites, we always issue this warning: Never use any compound containing Fipronil on a rabbit. Fipronil is deadly toxic to rabbits. It’s sold under a variety of brand names, Frontline is the most common. It’s safe for cats and dogs, but
  
  Revolution is great and bunny safe but it’s only available OTC in Australia.

  In some states/countries you can get ivermectin OTC. It’s a bunny safe mites-treatment, but it’s not sold specifically for rabbits OTC so dosage can be a bit of a problem. Do NOT give a pea-sized amount of horse ivermectin dewormer, as is sometimes suggested on the Internet. That is a huge dose for a rabbit.
  
  Permethrin is available OTC and highly effective against mites, but it’s not considered totally rabbit safe. There are a few studies that point to it being rabbit safe, but those I’ve seen have been made on very few rabbits, like this one with only 4 rabbits:

  Then there are various herbal remedies that claim effectiveness against skin parasites, but many herbal compounds/essential oils are highly irritating and haven’t gone through proper testing so they might not be safe one bit.
