Does anyone’s rabbit pull out any where from 5 to 10 normal poops before eating a cecotrope…? This didn’t use to happen before, but now it happens almost exclusively with Wick. It’s not the same “I’m going to nibble this normal poop to see if it’s a ceco”, but he literally gets a grip on it, throws it aside, and then goes back and does it again and again until he accumulates a small pile of poop by him.

Never had a bun do this, but it sounds so funny! Bun Jovi definitely eats a fair number of regular poops though… He’ll poop out a small pile outside of his box, then turn around and eat them all! At least he’s cleaning up after himself? Then he’ll eat his cecals straight from his bum as usual.

          Weird buns….

Our rabbit Xavier has done this since we got him 6 months ago. When he is eating his cecals he frequently leaves a couple of normal poops, um, behind. They aren’t cecals or even kind of cecal-like. I figured it was normal. I don’t see any of the operations though. They are just left behind when he galumps off.

He also drools when he eats, due to dental problems, and that leaves some delightful residue when he eats his cecals.

Never noticed that happening. Do you think this is a recent development, or you’ve only recently noticed the phenomenon?

My first bunny, Stormy, used to do this. He was a poop flinger. Was gross and funny at the same time. He’d just dig them out and fling em…lol. Never saw any other bunny do that.

It definitely did not happen at the old place, and it’s very prevalent now at the new place.

My main concern is if there is any health-related concerns coming from this, but it sounds like this is unusual, but not an ill sign so far.

My best theory is now Wick has 8 hay stations, 4 of which are not litter boxes, so he does not poop while eating copious amounts of hay. So perhaps because of this, his pipe is just more likely to be filled with poop waiting to exit?

Talking about Wick’s poop pipe. Always a good time.

Makes sense. Poop pipes are superior to water pipes, smoking pipes, or bubble pipes.
