I have heard wonderful things about Oxbow! I use MannaPro, and add some rolled oats, Black oil sunflower seeds, dehydrated carrot and dehydrated apple.

I’m sorry, but please don’t add what Magpie has suggested. Sunflower seeds and oats are very fattening for a bunny, and dehydrated apples and carrots are high in sugar which can cause GI distress if consumed in excess.

As for the pellets, the brand you’re currently using has very poor nutritional quality. I’d switch to something with a lot more fiber. As a baby bun he needs fiber and protein to help him grow and the brand you’re using has very low values. Compare Oxbow and you’ll see what I mean.

Oxbow is a better quality brand than Martin’s. High protein and calcium is important for a growing bun. Fiber is important for GI health and thermorgulation. My rabbit savvy vet says the fiber contents of a good rabbit pellet should be 20% minimum. The bulk of fiber should ideally come from hay. If a bun is a good hay eater, a lot of future health problems related to the GI tract (of which the teeth are a part).

Sunflower seeds and oats can sometimes be added to the diet of an aging bun or poorly bun that has difficulty keeping weight on.

I’m sorry for the misunderstanding.
The oats and ss actually provide nutrients, but they COULD be fattening in large amounts. She gets less than 1/2 teaspoon of each to every 1/4 cup of pellets.

Sherwood fan here. Started out with Oxbow and switched a few years ago. Never looked back.

I think it would probably be okay to continue feeding as long as he’s a good hay eater.

I used to feed Martins because it was much easier to find in stores here until one day I opened up a new bag of Martins and it was green. Like all the pellets were green and fuzzy. Mold!!!! I was horrified and I switched my bunnies to Oxbow. Didn’t transition obviously, and they were unhappy about the Oxbow. Most bunnies prefer the taste of other pellets to Oxbow. Healthy stuff isn’t always the tastiest.

I would b careful about dehydrated apples/carrots. Theyvr physically smaller pieces once dehydrated which makes it easy to give your bunny too much. They r high in sugar, which could b bad for your bunny’s digestive system. Sherwood is my favorite.

The apple chunks before dehydrating were 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch. I have been paying attention and she gets 2-3 per day.
The carrots were the size of a dime before dehydrating, and she gets 3-4 a day.

Depending on availability, we use Versele Laga Complete Cuni Sensitive OR Sherwood Pet Health Professional (or the blue Adult). They are beautifully formulated in ideal nutritional ratios. And don’t have weirdly unnecessary (for buns) ingredients like grain, soy, molasses, etc

You can’t buy them in store except some small places. No big brand names like Petsmart or Petco, but their products are available online at Amazon and the Sherwood website. I personally use DuMOR Proffesional on my rabbits since we do shows together and that’s all they’ll eat. My guinea pigs, however, love Sherwood and the people there are so great at what they do. Most Sherwood pellets are made to be supplements not the core of diets so for the quality and knowing it’s a good that feeding less for some bunnies or piggies is good, really makes the price right to me. I guess it would also depend on how active and how large your bunny is though

we are currently transitioning Bentley from purina complete (from the breeder) to Sherwood’s juniors. he’s very picky and also digs out the new pellets and eats the old ones first but he eventually eats them in the end. we bought our bag from Amazon and the quality of the pellets were great! super green and fragrant. I believe the prices are the same ( could be wrong) and I had prime so free shipping.

Sherwood makes two bunny pellets: one to be fed in small quantities to buns who are good hay eaters (what we use) and one to be fed in more generous quantities to buns who are fussy and could use more fiber.

No, for east coast the guinea pig store would be much better. I think they do flat rate shipping (it was 5$ for me, but email them to ask). Also, there’s probably an online shop closer to you that sells it… I just haven’t poked around the interwebs to find out.
