I recently bought a new two story hutch for the bunnies. Both floors have plastic flooring. I was wanting to do blankets on one floor of the hutch so they have the option of the cool plastic floor or the soft warm blanket floor. Can I use old t shirts? I know they will eventually ruin whatever blankets I use which is why I would just use t shirts

Yes!! Soft fabrics like T-shirts are good especially for nesting. I use towels for Zero and he loves them as do I. They help incase he has an accident or spills something.

You could, or maybe you could go to a craft store and get a yard or two of fleece, or WalMart sells blankets for $3, you could fold or cut those if you wanted

I like to use fleece as well. You can sometimes find fleece blankets at thrift stores (often sold for babies or dogs) for really cheap, or sometimes I’ll buy a few years from a fabric store and just cut what I need.

I forget if Lily and Cocoa are fabric chewers. If they are, I do not know the safety of these as chewed-on fabrics.

I use baby changing pads as flooring for Wick in front of his litter boxes and by his hay stations. They are soft and moveable, but also water proof. They will absorb water, but it won’t leak through, and this can save you some mess in the long term. I’ve found there are two ways people make waterproof changing pads (I’ve bought many different kinds). One is having a more plasticy-bottom to it, and this is unappealing because it crinkles and isn’t very durable. On the other hand, there are some that have a waterproof-layer inside and they feel very soft and pliable, like a blanket. This is one I have specifically for Wick that I love (just got it; comes in a 3-pack): http://www.amazon.com/Changing-Liners-BAMBOO-REVERSIBLE-3-PACK/dp/B01ACR0PAK/

These ones are the first ones I got and work the best (you may have seen them on Wick’s instagram): http://www.amazon.com/Monvecle-Waterproof-Changing-Washable-Resuable/dp/B01M8JHV45/ … I think it’s a TPU layer that’s the waterproof layering I end up liking.

I do not know much about TPU’s environmental impact, but I prefer to have these instead of puppy pads since I can reuse them endlessly (wash them by hand or in washer/dryer) and I like them better than blankets/shirts because they don’t leak through, so it saves the floor.

I will eventually buy fleece but I have a fair amount of old t shirts I had in some bins I was saving for crafts. Now that the hutch is in there I have to use some of them to clear space. Instead of wasting them all I may as well use them.

Are they chewers tho? If so, your tshirts might not be safe for them.
