My Female 4 year old, Lola, who is a Blue mini Rex has always been litter trained. She is spayed and always been a clean buns. We just adopted a new mini lion head we names Taz. He is not neutered yet. We kept them separate for a week but one day I came home and my boyfriend had interpreted them into the same cage with out letting me know. He kept them together all day and through the night saying “they are getting along fine” even though I disagreed. At first it was great because Taz became litter trained just by watching Lola. After about a week Lola started pooping and peeing everywhere! Taz still goes in the litter box. Now she is showing aggression towards him when he does not groom her when she wants him to. He is very attached to her, even though she keeps trying to nip him. He has not tried to mount her in weeks either! He tried when we first brought him home but not since then. We tried separating them again last night and Taz we very upset to not be with Lola, and Lola still peed and pooped everywhere in her cage. We don’t know what to do at this point. Also, recently she is showing huge signs of jealousy. If I pet Taz she comes running up and shoved him out of the way. What can we do to fix this? Is there any way to reverse interesting them too soon?

I have no experience with bonding, but based on how temperamental this relationship sounds and considering he is new, I do recommend separating them until he is neutered and recovered. Although there can be moments of cuddling and grooming, not being neutered can create unexpected hormonal behaviors from both him AND her, as being around an unfixed rabbit will bring out hormonal behaviors in fixed rabbits.

agree with Wick. You can’t bond unfixed bunnies. They need to remain separate all times until he is fixed. Once he is neutered you can begin prebonding by switching them between enclosures for 1-2 months while his hormones die down. After 1-2 months of prebonding you can begin short sessions in neutral territory (neither bun has been in).

Bunnies can fight to the death and she will be leaving territorial markings until they are bonded. I’ve had two unbonded but neutered boys for almost 2 years and I am constantly sweeping up because they leave poops everywhere. She could also start becoming aggressive and territorial as well because she’s used to the whole place being her space and now a new bunny that is hormonal has invaded. So after you’ve touched or played with him she may even begin nipping you. Be patient and if need be was your hands before handling her
