Hi everyone! Tundra is my mixed lop rabbit, spayed, and roughly 2.5 years old. She used to have good litter habits, but not any more. We have moved over the summer and were in 2 different homes. We are now in the second one and have been there for about 2 months. For a while, I thought she was having accidents because she was having trouble adjusting to moving so much. I tried to retrain her to use her box by keeping her in a small area. She still had accidents though as shown in the picture. I got her antibiotics for a potential uti, but that didn’t help either. We are currently waiting on blood test results to see if she had kidney issues.

I’ve tried feline pine and yesterday’s news. Neither has solved the problem and she pees right next to her box or on her rug. I’ve tried to keep her boxes super clean. She has 2 of them, one on each side of my bedroom that she free roams in, and her hay is above one of the boxes so she won’t pee on it, in case seeing on her hay made her not want to use that box.

She seems happy, but doesn’t flop and she used to do that all the time when I got her. She seems needy and always wants head pets and to lick me. I’m starting to think she is having accidents because she is lonely and mad at me for being gone 8hrs a day.

I just don’t understand her accidents, especially because she used to be good about litter. I appreciate anyone’s thoughts !

Along with kidney issues I’d test for EC. My Bombur has EC in the form of kidney issues. When he’s having a flare up he tends to go right next to his box and will dribble pee. Testing for normal kidney issues won’t show EC. The EC test is expensive, but it’s worth it. The meds for EC take a bit of time to work, but if you’re patient and wait it out they’re worth it. You could even ask if your vet will treat for EC anyways without having a positive result. EC tests can sometimes result in a false negative, meaning should could have it and just not have a high enough count to have the result show up positive.

What have you done when you say “retrain”? There are some rabbits that can pick it up on their own if restricted in space and you clean up accidents, but there are some, especially when their environment has changed a lot, that may need more guidance, like physically monitoring and moving them to the litterbox each time.
