        Hi,

Has anyone had experience with a possible (minor?) spine injury before?

My husband almost stepped on our rabbit (~1yr) by accident – did not stomp down or put the foot fully down thankfully but I think our poor rabbit may have been hurt, although he didn’t yelp from the incident. We’ve checked his front teeth – they looked fine. And no blood. But need the vet to check teeth inside and also give him a physical examination… We can only take him to the vet tomorrow or day after but was hoping to get people’s opinions and experiences…

Movement: He is still moving around, doesn’t seem to be limping, no obvious areas of weakness or signs of a limited range of movement, he can run and jump and lie down, and he seems relaxed most of the time. He can still scratch with his hind legs. But I noticed he doesn’t use his tongue as much. Normally I can get him to lick my nose but he’s stopped doing it (very very tiny/short flicks instead now). He seems to struggle to groom by licking himself, and I’ve not seen him clean his ears properly with licks either. Only his feet a little (gently).

Eating/drinking: Most scarily of all, I’ve seen him try to eat hay. He gets a piece in his mouth, but can’t seem to cut it with his teeth because he chews and chews but it just stays moist in his mouth while he chews, the hay doesn’t get shorter even though he chews so much.  HOWEVER, he can still eat pellets (seems more gently than normal) and he can eat fresh veg we’ve been giving him. I don’t think he is getting much water (I’m linking this to his tongue). Normally he loves to lap it up out of his bowl but today I saw him want to take a drink, but it was like he couldn’t. I’ve given him an extra bowl and also filled a water bottle in case he can find a way… He’s not drooling.

Poops: He seems to be pooping ok… They are smaller than usual, not as many as I’d expect, probably because of minimal hay and water. I haven’t seen him urinate yet which is worrying me – but not sure if it’s because he might be a bit dehydrated

Attitude: He’s definitely more docile, less active and a bit more shy (I don’t blame him, he was almost stepped on…) But he still loves us :'(

Can anyone guess what might be wrong? I’m just extremely nervous and anxious for him now and worried that something permanent has gone wrong and that he might be in pain

I have no idea what could be wrong but I suggest vet asap. Is there not one who could see him sooner?
