Good evening!
I have had my beautiful buns for around four years now. I found Dexter (male) dumped on the side of the street inside a cardboard box, he was estimated to be around four months old. Poppy (female) came from a rescue centre around a year later and was believed to be under one year old.
Dexter was a very well behaved house bun from the start, we had no issues with chewing and he was fairly laid back. He was neutered at about a year old. There were no issues until we bonded him with our beloved Poppy (neutered prior to bonding). After the initial bonding process, we found out that Poppy was an enthusiastic chewer. Dexter soon followed suit and has become a keen chewer ever since. They have always had access to various chewable toys, there has always been plenty in the pen and around the room. They love to chew these up, but that is no deterrent, they love chewing walls, skirting boards, carpet etc. This is to be expected with buns but it has come to the point that they no longer have free roam of the living room, they only have access to their large house pen. This is mainly for safety as everything they destruct, they fully ingest. Wallpaper, lino, carpet, you name it. We have had near death episodes with both due to their digestive systems becoming blocked with materials. Thankfully prompt veterinary action saved them.
I have bunny proofed the house as much as possible and tried various suggested behavioural techniques but nothing deters there. I am devastated because they love to come out and play around and have free roam, but it is impossible. I don’t know what to do anymore.
So sorry for the long post,
Please say that someone else has a similar issue
