My 5 month old fuzzy mini lop, Albie, was neutered last Tuesday. He spent 3 days confined to his hutch (a very frustrated, angry bun!), but is now free roam again when we are home). He’s happy to be back with his BFF (our golden retriever, Buddy). In the 2 1/2 weeks before his neuter, his litter habits worsened —went from 98% consistent to spraying and pooping on the dog bed, random furniture, and my feet. I was hopeful the neuter would change this. Since being allowed back out of the hutch yesterday, the spraying hasn’t happened and the poops are much decreased but not stopped completely. Tonight Albie jumped on me when I was laying on the couch, briefly wanted to be petted, and then peed on my lap. Any advice on getting his behavior back to consistently using his litter box now that he’s neutered? I really don’t want bad habits to get ingrained! Thanks.

It isn’t unusual for hormonal behaviors to continue and even worsen in the weeks following a neuter. This should resolve itself as his hormones stabilize. Until then, you can go back to litter training basics and exclude him from areas he is most likely to pee. Otherwise, there isn’t a whole lot you can do until he calms down.
