        Hi there,

My wife and I moved to a new apartment in April and ever since our Bunny, Timothy, hasn’t been quite the same. He’s still very sweet-natured and loves to be pet, but he rarely explores the apartment. Aside from occasionally coming out and exploring the two bedrooms near his room (he lives in the laundry room), he mostly stays in there and he has never felt comfortable coming to the front of the apartment (dining and living room) where we spend most of our evenings. We had light wood floors in our new place but now have dark wood floors, and wondered if that might be part of the problem? For the most part he just seems so cautious and fearful when he’s anywhere but his room. In our other place, he explored the apartment quite freely. We thought that he would adjust after some time but since it’s been several months, we’ve just kind of accepted the fact that he’s just not as comfortable here. We also wondered if maybe the fact that he’s a little older now (two years), he’s just less playful and exploratory. If anyone can share any helpful thoughts, it would be so appreciated!

        Thanks so much,

        Will

          Hi!
I can’t personally speak to how a bunny reacts after moving, but I have a few ideas on potential factors in the change of behaviour. Of course, your bunny could still be exploring and is very slowly warming up to the new house. My best guess is that the floors are a little bit more slippery in your new house, and that’s contributing to your bunny’s tentativeness. I could totally be wrong, but whenever I’ve let Paisley out on our wood floors, she acts very nervous and careful, sticking close to the ground and moving very slowly. It could just be that your bunny isn’t super comfortable getting around on a more slippery floor. There could also be other factors like noises, smells, etc that may contribute to the avoidance of the living room and such. I’m just guessing here though If it’s the flooring, my only suggestion would be to maybe add some carpets? Or fleece blankets etc. I know this isn’t always the most visually appealing, but there are definitely ways to incorporate some flooring with easier grip.
Hope that helps! Sorry if I’m totally off haha

Thanks so much Tianna! You make a really good point. Recently we’ve been lining the path from the laundry room to the living room with towels and table cloths and he’s been making progress exploring. Appreciate your help!
