Hello! So just an hour ago, I got woken up by one of my bunnies making a loud sound of pain. I woke up and checked both of their cages and found that my female bunny had escape from her cage. The cage has an open top, but she can jump 30 inches (I bought the cage before I got her). So because of that I added some extra cage piece to the top. She hasn’t been able to get out since. Last night i must have hit the gate top because there was a small area open. And I mean very small. She must of gotten out though there.

It took an hour getting her to come out from behind my bed, once I got her (picking her up carefully because I didn’t know where she hurt herself) I checked everything. Her back feet look fine, I touched them and checked the nails and everything was good. I checked her front paws and they were all good too. Her head and ears checked out to be good too, as well as her back and stomach. I let her roam a little after because I wanted to see if she was hopping around. She acted like everything was fine. I then went and checked my other bunny and he looked fine as well. (He ran to the cage to be petted by me just like he does every morning).

So my question is, is she alright? She is eating right now, and acting normally. Can bunnies make sounds like that even if they are not hurt that bad?

To add: she is currently in a bonding process with my other bunny, that is why she is not free roam. She will become free roam when bonded with my other bunny. Both bunnies get play time during the day, long hours as well.

Hmm , I would definitely keep an eye on her and make sure she is not only moving but also continuing to eat and poop.

They can make noises when they’re scared so maybe she got spooked by something or she scared herself?

Thank you for replying so fast!!!! I plan on keeping an eye out for her, I have asked my family member to keep an eye on her too while I work today, I work late tho, so I have all morning and afternoon to watch everything. That could have been it, because she did go and hide for an hour. I know she easily gets scared.

You’re welcome It’s good that you’ve got family to look after her whilst you’re at work. You could do the treat test every few hours to check she’s not lethargic and ask your family to do the same

Definetly keep an eye on her, my bet is because the area is so small that she squeezed through, she got stuck and it scared her. Rabbits “scream” like that when they are extremely scared or are hurt, if she isn’t showing signs she probably got stuck, but they can hide it so well.

I been keeping an eye on her all day, as well as my family. She is eating normally, pooping normally, and running around. She is acting 100% normal. I checked her out again just to make sure I didn’t miss anything, and all seemed fine still. I will continue to keep a close eye on her for the next few days. Thank you both your responses.

I’m starting to think she might have got caught like you said. She can jump 30 inches, but it is just barely making it. So I think with that and the small space she escape through, made her react like that.
