My husband and I have an amazing 1 year old mini lop who has been the only bunny since we got him (at 6 weeks old) but we recently brought home and new baby bunny and Rupert (my one year old) and Oliver (the baby) seem to get along great which was such a relief.  My problem is that the last few days Rupert has started to dig at my chest and chew my shirt (and sometimes me) which is something he hasn’t done since he was first brought home (11 months ago).  Any ideas on why he is doing this again and what it means?  I’m sure it has to do with the new bun but I’m not sure exactly why he is doing this and I want to make sure it isn’t something I should be concerned about.  Thanks friends!

Please keep your new bunny completely separate from your older bun at all times, including play time. Bunnies become hormonal around 12 weeks and will only want to fight and mate. Both buns need to be fixed and you need to go through the proper bonding process. Bunnies can fight to the death, so this is extremely important that they are separated. If Rupert is neutered he will still act off the new bunnies hormones. This could all be tied to the new bun, as it sounds like he is boxing your shirt, which even if it doesn’t seem it, is considered aggressive.

Not an expert on bonding, but bumping for those who may be.

At first thought, I’d say that the older Oliver will get, the more Rupert will react, and that after neutering, they’ll need to be properly bonded. But I could be wrong

My bunnies are not housed together and anytime they are out together, which is rare, they are HIGHLY monitored. Oliver isn’t fixed as he’s too young but as soon as we can he will be. The only other thing I should mention is that the last two weeks I’ve been switched to working a night schedule which now that I thought about it lines up with when the behavior started. This morning Rupert was totally fine and actually wanted to be held and wanted A LOT of kisses but then again tonight he acted mad at me. Not sure if it could be possible that is actually has nothing to do with Oliver but if Rupert is mad I’m leaving and is upset by my schedule switch? Thankfully, this is the last week of nights is that’s what it is. Thanks!!

                Buns can be mysterious creatures
