This may seem like a silly question, but I was wondering how much Finnegan should be eating? He a dwarf lionhead and around 5 or so years old. He is a small little man. I have had him for 6 months now, but he just doesn’t seem like a big eater at all! He eats maybe a few tablespoons of pellets, a small handful of hay and a few romaine lettuce or spinach leaves a day (he is a very very picky greens eater since he never had any before coming to me). He seems to be pretty energetic though, and drinks quite a bit of water. It just gives me anxiety because I feel like he is eating nothing, and I worry a lot about GI stasis.

I will say though that my previous experience with rabbit diet was with Moxie, a 9 pound bottomless pit. So she was considerably larger than Finnegan  And then there is Loki (for those of you who remember, the surprise “gift” someone gave me). He is probably around 6 months or so now (i have had him for 4 months) , but he is a bit bigger than Finnegan and eats quite a bit more than him already. (lLoki gets unlimited food still since he is still young)

I dunno, I just want to make sure that he is normal

(Also next month marks a year since I lost Moxie, so that may be playing a factor in my sudden stress with the amount of food my rabbits are consuming. I acknowledge the fact that I sound crazy lol)

A lionhead would only need about 1/8 to 1/4 cup of pellets per day, which sounds like what you may be feeding him. So that’s good. A small handful of hay doesn’t sound like much, unless the quantity is roughly the size of Finnegan. Have you tried different varieties of hay for him? More of a variety of greens would be better too, but it sounds like you’ve tried that and he hasn’t liked much. You may want to try some of those other greens again, or find some others to try, since their tastes can change with time.

Hmm, Kurotta is a really tiny little guy (he’s a Netherland Dwarf but seems to be tinier than other NDs), but he eats quite a fair amount of hay, especially if it’s orchard grass. So I agree with tobyluv in trying other types of hay?

Could he be having some dental troubles as well?
