Yesterday I brought home some new hay from my vet clinic which my bunny loves. She is eating it well but I have noticed that she prefers to eat it straight from the brown paper bag it came in, rather than her (large) hay dispenser even though they are both the same hay and from the same batch. I am just curious with what’s going on in that tiny head of hers!! Do any of your buns do this?

Hahahha my buns always come running to eat the hay out of the storage bin even when there is plenty in their hay rack!

No idea why! Maybe it seems fresher to them? It does seem like mine eat more when I put out a smaller amount at a time, and I’ve found they prefer to eat it from a pile in their box vs. the rack…. but of course then they flatten and pee all over it… so I’ve compromised by putting small amounts in the box daily and most of it in the rack.

You could try putting the hay in/on her litter box instead of the rack I used to put my bunny’s hay in a rack but realised he wasn’t eating a lot of hay, so we removed the rack and put the hay on top of his grated litter box instead. Since then he’s been eating so much more!

My bun is always a good hay eater, and yet even so, he loves when I open the hay box, because if I’m not looking he can jump IN it and go to town. Buns are weirdos.

I’ve put hay on her litter box and also on the rack just for her to choose from, turns out she likes them both haha! I’ve also put less hay in her rack which she has also liked too. Thanks heaps guys, you’re all awesome!!
