I have an 8 month old rabbit that I rescued. Even the vets are confused as to what breed he is! His markings are that of a Dutch, however he is about 2/3x the size of a Dutch, and he is nutmeg and white! Although, he does have some specks of black on his back and a tiny bit on his face. Can anyone help?!

Could you upload a picture? It’s much easier to tell from a picture

I would love to see a pic also!

It sounds like he’s possibly a bun that has carries and expresses the vienna gene. This can give dutch-like markings in other breeds, often blue eyes or sometimes it will just be expressed as one white paw or white patch on the nose.

However, he could be a dutch! He’s not done growing yet and its possible for some to be smaller (or larger) then the breed standard.

The nutmeg colouring with some black sounds a bit like tort (tortoise) colouring.

This is an example of a tort rabbit colour.

And here it is with in some Dutch rabbits

The Duchess has a dutch that’s only about 3.5 pounds. She’s very slim and not the standard type of Dutch weight you’d expect to see.
