My brother will be visiting with his dog. Do you have any tips for getting our minilop (10 weeks when they visit) used to my brother’s Kooikerhondje?

Our minilop is an outdoors bunny but has indoor space. The dog has been to our house a few times, so it’s not all new for him. He seems a lot more settled than he used to be, especially round me. Should we get the dog settled first and then bring bunny out his hutch? I don’t want him to be terrified…

          Hi
I will say that you will want to keep the bun and dog separate at all times as a dog is a predator and can go after the bun, especially since he is just visiting and not living there.

You should be able to let the bun come and go as he pleases so he doesn’t feel so territorial about the house with the dog in it.

My bun lived with my mother in law and her two small mix breed doggos and my parents with their miniature jack russell whilst we were on holiday/moving and honestly Garf loved them. He had no issues with them and if anything – he was boss! I would always be supervising them but just take it slow and see how your bun acts! You’ll know what to do best

Keeping them seperate is probably the best option. Your bunny is likely to be very afraid as dogs are natural predators.
No mattet how nice a dog, they all have the instinct to chase after a fleeing prey animal

I own dogs, and i just never let them interact with the rabbits, – seeing as this dog is just visiting, I’d keep them apart (dog in the garden, rabbit in the house. dog in the house, rabbit in garden)

I agree with Dface. No need to stress out bunny for a visitor.
If the dog were to be an addition to your family, it might be worth investing the time and energy to gently and slowly acclimate them to each other.

Thank you everyone for your replies.

Especially the advice re rabbits being natural prey for dogs…

In the end we played it safe – the dog stayed in the car until we were ready Tobago for a walk.
The decider was when my brother said “Peppin does have form for chasing rabbits…”
