If anybody has had this problem or knows what to do I would appreciate the help.

Recently I have had to move Ivory, my bun to the garage. My family has been having some allergy problems, so we could no longer keep her indoors. She has a huge cage, two X-pens attached with a BIG chicken coop in the middle. She has a digging box, lots of toys, a hidey house, a tunnel, everything she could want/need. Yet, it still doesn’t seem to be enough, she seems happy, always running out to greet me in the mornings when we eat our breakfast together, she flopped when I brought in the chicken coop which is a really good sign but something still seems to be missing. She has taken to the habit of chewing her cage bars, I keep picking her up and moving her away but she just nudges my hand and goes back at it. After I move her away for about the fourth time she flicks her feet and takes to her chicken coop. I don’t know what to do! It must be super bad for her as well as for the cage, PLEASE HELP!!

        A helpless bunny owner,

        Finn

Hi! Is she spayed? Does she have toys in her pen? Has she been to a rabbit savvy vet to check her teeth to see if they hurt? Has the garage been used by cars or have chemicals in it? A bunny should only be put in a garage that has never been used before as those toxins are very serious to their health.

She probably needs more interaction time with you and maybe a bigger pen so allow her to move more. Have you thought about getting her a partner since you have now moved her to be alone?

They normally chew on their cage, because they are bored, or are overly excuted to see you and want to be pet, as well as they want attention

Hi, thanks for the reply. Yes, she has lots and lots of toys and the garage is safe. She isn’t spayed yet but we are making a date for it.

That’s what I thought at first but I spend almost more time her then I did when she was inside. We eat each meal together, I make her salad or pellets/herbs and then make myself food and we sit and eat with eachother and I pet her and play with her. We are adopting a rabbit friend, I’m talking to lots of people at the moment who have adoptable rabbits.

              Thank you.

Wick wakes up earlier than I do, so he’s antsy to get out of his indoor hutch/pen. He would tug and the bars and rattle the entire thing. What I ended up doing was clipping a plastic sheet (like painting tarp) against the inside, and that dissuaded him from trying.

Have you tried to cover the bars in any way?

No not yet. That seems like a really good idea though! Thank you so much, this will help a lot. I’ll let you know if it works?

My bun does the same. It’s his way of communicating one of two things:

                      IT’S FEEDING TIME, HUMAN !

                      or
I’m ready to come out and explore
