Hello. My little Lola has what appears to be bladder sludge. Sometimes she urinates normal and twice I have seen a thick white substance present after she urinated. About the consistency of a hair gel. She is eating normal, has not lost her appetite. We noticed wet tail three days ago and upon inspection noticed white urine on her privates. Due to a house fire and a couple of health issues that hit my wife and I we have maxed out both credit cards and I am having to work my primary job and a temp job at night to get by. We cannot afford the vet and since Lola has never had the need for one no one will set me up on a payment plan to see her. We are not irresponsible I feel horrible that our financial situation will not afford us a vet visit. Most of our money is going into a weekly hotel bill where we are staying until our house is fixed from the fire. It is very expensive. Is this going to kill her? I’m a wreck right now. Can she pass this sludge on her own?

How old is she and what’s her diet like?

When you say white substance in the urine, is it all like the consistency of hair gel or was there still normal liquid pee?

Sorry to hear about your troubles Hope you all are coping and that things turn around soon xx

I’m so sorry you’re going through this.

The vet will want to take a urine sample to confirm but it does sound like a infection. If the infection doesn’t get cleared up, it can spread (but usually I’m sick or older buns). Also if it doesn’t get cleared up, the calcium crystals can start to clot and then it can clog the urethra and prevent peeing, which inturn can cause infection. See if the vet can do a payment plan or sign up for care credit. The vet shouldn’t be too expensive including the meds. You can just opt to do the antibiotics and some painmeds instead of an ultrasound and X-rays and see if the problem can get cleared up without the extra costs.

The vet might even understand your situation and give you a discount since you’re going through all of this.

Very sorry to hear about the fire.

It sounds like some excess calcium sediment. I think the fact she is able to pass this stuff is a good sign. True bladder sludge is even thicker and more yellow in colour.
Has she been on slightly different diet since you had to relocate? More pellets? DIfferent hay? I’d look at anything that is high calcium and take that out for now.

Has she been using litterbox as normal or peeing on the floor more?

For the tail, you could wipe over with some pet-safe antibacterial wipes. We had a member here have some success with that as their rabbit kept re-infecting itself.
