This morning when I was clipping Roger’s nails I noticed a red spot on his front paw near his nail. It’s the nail farthest from the dew claw and it’s even on the same nail on the other side! Roger let me poke at it and he didn’t jerk away or act like he was in pain. I don’t know if this is the beginning of a sore hock or if this is normal for a rabbit to have? Any advice would be helpful.

Rabbits don’t normally get sore hocks on the front, but I think I know what you are describing. My Bindi had a front toe that was always pretty red, almost sore hock-ish looking. It never turned into anything, as I monitored it.

Do you keep his nails nice and short? What sort of flooring does he have? What are his actual hocks like?

Almost every room in my house is carpet so the areas that I allow the bunnies to run around in have fleece blankets covering the floors. I trim my bunnies nails every 4-6 weeks and I cut them as short as the quick will let me. Both Roger and Chloe’s back hocks look good, no red spots and the fur is nice and thick back there. Roger is quite a bit overweight, he could stand to be put on a diet lol.
