Hi! So I am a new bunny owner (not completely out of the loop, as I used to own 2 when I was a kid but it’s a bit different now that I’m on my own obviously lol) I bought Momo from what seemed to be a girl in 4H. She was not very forthcoming with info so I don’t know how old she is or what breed she is. In retrospect I should have asked but she seemed very shy and I too am not great with social situations. I am taking Momo to the vet Thursday to get her checked out to make sure she is in good health and maybe get an estimate on how old she is and all that. But I guess my initial question is, is it possible for the vet to tell me her age or is that something only the previous owner could tell me? Thanks and I hope to get to know some of you in the forum and maybe make some friends! ?

The vet can give you an approximate age (less than 1, around 2, and things like that). I believe they determine the age by looking at their teeth? I’m not 100% on that, but they can definitely give you a ballpark figure for an age.

          Welcome

            Hi Lena and Momo,

Welcome! I am also new to this forum. As Asriel and Bombur said above, the vet can help provide you with an estimate of his age. When I took my rabbit to the vet when I first got him, the vet gave us an approximate age before and after he got neutered (he said the surgery would provide him with more clues). A rabbit savvy vet could also help you with figuring out his probable breed/mixture of breed. Congratulations of your new bunny.

Like the above have said, the vet can probably give you an estimate Usually breeders have a record of their bunnies’ birth dates, so unless they are willing to provide you with that information, the most you can get would be an estimate.
