My rabbit used to be really good about eating hay but recently the hay we’ve been getting hasn’t been up to her standards for whatever reason even though it’s the exact same brand and the exact same type (Timothy).

We’re thinking it might be because the hay we’re getting now is too green for her since we’ve had similar issues in the past and she’s always preferred the dry almost brown hay rather than the more vibrant green one.

Is there any way to make the hay more appetizing for her? She’s still good at eating pellets and veg so it doesn’t seem to be a health issue, more a princess complex.

I’ve also attached an old picture of her . She’s the black jersey wooly named Kopipi next to her equally aloof malebun lifepartner Bloo.

They are cute! Has she been to a vet to check her molars and make sure she doesn’t have any spurs?

Have you tried different brands? She might prefer sweeter or duler hays that each company sells.

I just posted about something like this yesterday! I’ll be following.. my amazing eater just stopped eating hay and cannot figure out what it’s about- This started two weeks after a wellness visit with my rabbit savvy vet (no molar issues) . Tries other brands of hay, as well as types of oxbow hay.

Have you tried different types of hay? I found that my bunny likes to be served different types of hay. Maybe she gets bored of it? So what I do is that I switch it up every few days from Timothy to orchard to oaten. Maybe try that?

Another note is that sometimes different batches of hay may taste different despite it coming from the same brand. It may take some time for the bunny to get used to. Unfortunately, they can sometimes just refuse the entire batch all together. I say keep giving it to her, but if you’re worried, just try different hays for now. I mean as long as she’s eating some kind of hay, then it’s fine.

                Your bunnies are adorable!

                All the best.
