Ive been doing a lot of reading and trying to figure out all the necessities for having a little bunbun just to make sure he has everything he needs and to make him as happy as possble.

Im trying to litter train him and its been two days so far but Im wondering if I should keep him in his pen until hes trained or if I can let him out? As soon as I let
him out to play around the house he pees and poops as he goes so Ive kept him in his pen the past two days but I feel so bad! Im wondering if its the right call..

Also for the litter training so far hes been pooping all over his pen so I place the poops in his litter but my mom pointed out that maybe he noticed Im picking them up for him so he sees no reason to use the litter box himself and that was so funny to me because what if its true! Haha what do you think?

He doesnt seem to eat a lot of hay.. I see him picking at it every now and then but the pile I give him doesnt seem to get any smaller by the end of the day. Should I feed him less veggies to encourage him to eat more hay? Ive even made him a little paper towel roll toy filled with hay and he seems to be loving it but I still feel like its not enough. I know its suppose to be 80% hay and 20% veggies but as of right now I feel like its the opposite. I give him about half a cup in the morning and half at night and I feel like thats all he waits for! Someone have any other ideas?

Im not sure if he was given any veggies before I got him because hes been very difficult with me about what he eats haha.. he took to carrots and celery right away but Ive read those are more treat foods so I tried some others but when I gave him kale, mint and arugula he would not even taste it he actually pushed me hand away. So I left it in his pen for a little to see if hed atleast try anything before making up his mind andddd he ended up giving them a try and now he loves those three more than the celery and carrots. I also bought radicchio but he doesnt like it which I found surprising because a lot of bunny owners said theirs love it.
I was wondering what foods your bunnies like and do you suggest I try?
As for fruits Ive tried blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries but he wont even try them even if I leave them in his cage. Im thinking trying apples or bananas next? What fruits do you guys suggest?

Also, hes a red mini satin, and his names Momo ❤️ Ive had him for a little over a week and he’s already opening up with his personality and I absolutely love his little sassy self already!
Anyways I guess thats it for now! Thanks to anyone who takes the time to read and possibly answer. Its very much appreciated

Hi Momo and welcome to the world of rabbits!

Lots of people confine their buns to a pen when they’re first brought home to let them familiarise with the new environment. Many buns will feel intimidated if they’re given a huge space right away. I’m not sure which is the BEST way, but personally when I first got Kurotta, he was free to roam the room and if he pees or poops outside, I picked up the poops, wiped up the pee with a paper towel and toss both into his box in the cage. He learnt pretty quickly that the box is where he’s supposed to go.

If he’s pooping everywhere, that most likely means that he’e still in the midst of getting used to the new place and is marking territory.

How old is he and what’s his current diet like? It’s recommended that a young bunny’s diet should consist of alfalfa hay and pellets, with vegetables slowly introduced at about 3-4 months of age when their gut flora is more developed to digest those. These days lots of people feed their baby buns timothy hay though as it’s often difficult transitioning the bun to timothy once the alfalfa becomes too rich for them.

When you introduce vegetables, do it one type at a time and in very small amounts, maybe just a leaf or so. This is because a bunny’s digestive system is extremely delicate and if their tummy reacts negatively, you would be able to know which vegetable was the culprit and stop giving it. Same goes for fruits.

I was told he was a jr so around 6 months.
I hope he learns to use his litter box quickly because I can tell he wants to come out and play with my cats, they are already so fond of each other! They will sit outside his pen and wait for me to let them in with him so they can play.
I got him from my local fair ( I hope you guys dont frown on it Ive never seen bunnies at any of my local animal shelters ) it was kind of an impulse buy but I have wanted a bunny for a long time I just never see them around other than pet stores so I didn’t expect to get one.
As for his diet I wasnt told any specifics on what they were feeding him they just put pellets in his carry home box. No hay or any other information so Ive been reading everything I possibly can to make sure he gets the best care possible. I love animals and am very into making sure my little family gets the best life. Ive been giving him unlimited Timothy hay and he does like it just doesnt eat as much as I feel he should. I mentioned the veggies I give him and those are it so far. I also give him pellets but not very much. I just put a little in his bowl about a half an hour before bed and let him eat and take it out when Im going to sleep. Maybe I should leave it for longer? But Im trying to make sure hes eating more hay so Im not sure what to do.
