Hey guys, I have a question about litter box behavior that hopefully some of you have experience with.

Ollie used to be amazing with the litter box but its been gradually getting worse. Its gotten to the point where he will only pee in it once or twice when it is cleaned and then he will just pee on his cage’s floor. I don’t understand why.. its still clean, its been 1 night since i cleaned it and he’s peeing on the floor.

I also noticed he’s only peeing on the right side of the litter box and nowhere else. I’ve tried cleaning up his pee with a paper towel and putting it inside on the left side and that usually works but not this time. So now its just gotten to a bad point.

Does anyone have experience with this and know why this could be? His feet are all yellow because of this He even has one of those litter boxes with the grate on top to prevent that -.- He’s not neutered yet so maybe that may have something to do with it but he was great at the litter box before so I don’t know what changed.

Yeah non neutered bunnies can be a bit shaky with their litter habits. Haven’t done this myself but heard of people putting the letterbox into the place where the rabbit is peeing, if you get me? Also those grates for litter boxes are not good at all for bunny feet, so if you could get rid if the grace and put some litter as a first layer to soak up all the pee, it should do the trick.

I have a different grate! One that’s good for bunny feet. It’s not made of wire just thick plastic that’s easy on the feet. Here’s the link to it with a picture https://www.amazon.com/Md-trade-Trainer-Bedding-falesaur/dp/B075ZS5JHZ/ref=pd_aw_sbs_199_of_7?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=95S0J535S165DPZMM5SP

Sometimes a loss of litter habits can be due to an illness (like a UTI or such), but other times it could just be due to hormones, especially if the bunny isn’t neutered. It’s quite common for unfixed bunnies to one day just decide that they’re not going to pee in the box. Hormones are unstable like that.

If Ollie isn’t showing any other sign of a potential illness, then it’s most likely just his hormones acting up. As for peeing in a particular corner, lots of bunnies love doing that for some reason, and it really isn’t necessary to make him pee in the left corner instead than the right. Kurotta loves the left corner of his litter box too so when the soiled litter piles up there, I either give the box a shake to even it out or scoop up the soiled litter in that particular corner so it doesn’t pile up above the grate and soils his feet. His litter box is exactly like the one in your link.

                Definitely hormones
