My rabbit has free run of my room about 90% of the time, I always play with him and brush him and lay with him so I really hope he’s not bored. I thought he was doing it because he was happy, I’d rub near his tail and he’d go in circles but the more I look into it it looks like he has fleas or is unhappy.. is there a way to check for fleas? He has a lot of fur and I brush him twice a day and never noticed anything… thank you!

If he flops, binkies, zoomies or generally comfortable, odds are he’s not unhappy. If you haven’t seen fleas on him after brushing that much, then odds are he probably doesn’t have fleas either. I’d look into something neurological. Either something to do with the inner ear or EC or something else related to that area.

My understanding is your are interacting with the tail, and then he proceeds to circle multiple times?

My initial reaction is he’s probably being defensive and wants to get at whatever he perceives is on him or chasing him, hence the constant circling to identify the cause.

My secondary reaction is more serious and I believe unlikely, but I know a cat who has nerve damage in their rear that flares up when they are stimulated. It’s painful/irritating, so the cat will chase it’s rear, growl at it, etc..

He doesn’t growl or anything and he never does it when I’m not interacting with him, so I like to hope he’s trying to entertain himself or something… he’s not fixed yet so maybe he’s got some built up energy? Maybe I’m overthinking it, I just can’t stand the thought of something being wrong or him being unhappy and being blissfully ignorant of it

Update: his last owner didn’t brush him properly and he had mattes under his butt and the were big and bothering him. Got them removed and he’s all good now and I make sure he gets extra brushing by his butt lol

Glad to hear it! That bum fur can be a real problem for some buns.
