I am very fortunate to have developed a great trust from my rabbit. He is usually very sociable, happy to approach me,has even licked me and is easy with being handled when I need to trim his claws or take him to the vet.

While topping up his hay, my Rabbit leapt up out of his pen the moment I removed the roof. He then made his way towards some wires plugged into the wall. I therefore grabbed him very quickly. He scratched me and when I put him down he lunged at my hand and bit it, then thumping his foot.

I know his pen is spacious and safe, it was a lapse of concentration from me.

My concern is, have I ruined his trust and relationship with me? Is there a chance he doesn’t like me?

I’m in the process of rabbit proofing my room and making him a house bunny in there

You haven’t ruined your relationship. He may give you the bunny butt for a couple of hours, unless you bribe him with a treat, in which case he’ll probably forgive you sooner. He wasn’t pleased with being grabbed, but that’s rather understandable. You will get back into his good graces again, maybe you already have while I’m writing this.

He’ll be mad for a while but bunnies are very forgiving I find. You did what was necessary to keep him from hurting himself so don’t feel bad.

Fernando went through quite the phase of jumping out of the pen last year – on one occasion he skyrocketed a good three feet upwards from a standing start on the floor to the roof of the condo cage, then leaped over to the hay bins standing next to the cage, and off to the races he went! On one memorable occasion, he was so irked at having his fun spoiled by the BIG STOOPID HOOMIN that he not only kicked at me when I finally corralled him and picked him up, but gave me a good nip to show me just what he thought of interfering busybody humans. However, he had simmered down thoroughly within a couple of hours, just as bam says.

I don’t think a one time incident like that would make him dislike you instantly
