Hi guys! Looking for some advice here.

I’ve been thinking about getting another pet, probably a cat, but I really want to do the right thing by my bunnies. I’ve done a little research online and I was surprised to find that many people say cats and bunnies get along well! Still, I’ve heard the same about dogs and bunnies but have recently read some horror stories about bunnies and usually-friendly dogs…

I have two bonded bunnies, both about 2 years old. They have free roam of my apartment during the day, and stay in a cage at night and when I can’t supervise them.

The cat would obviously have free roam of my apartment, while my bunnies would hopefully still have free roam when supervised and stay in the cage when unsupervised. If for some reason they didn’t get along, I do have a room that I could move the bunnies to that’s separate from the rest of the apartment. Obviously I don’t want to do that, but it makes me feel better to have a backup plan.

I’m definitely not decided on getting a cat, but I was wondering if anyone has any advice. Would a cat just be creating unnecessary stress for my buns? I figure a kitten would be safer than a grown cat so it could grow up thinking of the bunnies as family members, does that sound reasonable?

        Thanks!

My cat and bunnies are just fine. My experience is that bunnies and cats are a much easier combo than dogs and bunnies. Most bunnies tend to be the boss in a cat-bunny relationship.

Not sure about kitten vs. adult, it might not matter too much. I think it matters more whether the bunnies are very skittish or not. Since your buns are only free-roam when supervised, you would also be supervising whenever the bunnies and cat were out together, so I think you will prob be fine either way.

Get a young kitten so it will start out smaller than the bunnies and accept them as dominant. Here’s to your happy expanded family.

Ditto. I’ve had many bunny/cat combos and never had a problem save for the occasional bunny chasing the cat.

Kittens can be really playful and a bunny may find that intimidating. I’ve always adopted older calm cats and things have been fine. Not saying a kitten wouldn’t work, but I would supervise very carefully at first. A big bunny could really hurt a kitten.
