The previous owner used a bottle and I use a bowl, Bunbun doesn’t seem to drink from the bowl much at all.

Should I get a bottle as thats what he is used to?

I read that bottles build up more bacteria and bunnies can’t get enough water from them. I’ve been changing the water everyday but the level doesn’t seem to go down much at all.

There doesn’t seem to be any side effects, he still eats, explores, pees and poops normal.

He’s a Netherlands Dwarf and about 9 weeks old

Rabbits do typically drink from a bowl much more. If you are noticing no drinking what so ever, I would suggest putting a bottle right by the bowl for now. I would give the bowl more time though.

How high is the water level of the bowl?

Almost to the top but not quite, high enough for Cinnamon to reach. He drinks about 50ml a day, perhaps less

I know there are days Wick drinks a lot versus a little. If he is drinking some out of the bowl, it’s a good sign that he knows that’s where water is and he’ll go to it when he’s thirsty. A safe bet would be putting a bottle there and seeing if he constantly goes there versus the bowl.

Okay, thanks I’ll get a bottle soon

I worry that he is a little stressed out, as his previous owner was using a tiny cage and I am letting him freeroam, I’ve put lots of places to hide in my room, over all he seems happy to have more space. I’ve had lots of pets before but never a bunny so I’ve been watching lots of youtube videos and reading about them so I can give him the best life I can

It could also be availability of water. If he has a lot of space and only one water source, he’s not likely to visit there a lot of water. For example, Wick is generally free roam in my space, but sometimes I literally bring him water because I can tell he’s thirsty, but he doesn’t go to the water source in the other room to satiate it.

                    Thanks,

I put another water bowl down in a more secure area rather than out in the open and then showed him the way there with a treat. He stuck his nose in the water so he knows now where to find it, I’ll keep an eye on the level and let you know if it works

my bunnies prefer a bottle over a bowl. i usually have to refill the bottle several times a day! what it might also be is the type of water. my bunnies prefer spring water i get at the store over any other water. that may also help.
