  Normally when bonding a pair you would put the two bunnie’s cages side by side and swap. If you were to do that with a bonded pair and a single you would most likely cause the bonded pair to break up and fight, right? I’m trying to think what the next step would be if the stuffy doesn’t seem to help Thumper accept Storm.

  Just change the litter boxes around. It’s almost the same thing except causing too much stress.

  I’ve been swapping enclosures (which are on opposite sides of the apartment) and that helped with Harley but Thumper still doesn’t trust Storm. I get plenty of flops and bunny 500s so I’m confident they aren’t stressed or annoyed by the swaps.

  Honestly, at this point you’ve done some sessions and you’ve swapped cages. If their bond was going to break it probably already would’ve.

  To me this sounds really cruel to poor Storm but should I let Thumper nip her? They do need to communicate but I don’t think the nips are a good form of communication.

  Nips are fine, bites are bad. Nips don’t break skin or pull fur. Obviously if Storm is getting distressed or if its escalating then intervene, but an occasional nip is fine.

  Is there a good way to tell if Thumper is going to bite rather than nip? Her ears are always in the annoyed/angry position when she approaches Storm.

  Have you seen evidence of biting so far? If she hasn’t been biting so far, then it’s probably nipping, but if she’s always aggressive with Storm and storm reacts badly to the ‘nips’ then I would go back to prebonding for a bit.

  Yes, luckily I was able to get my finger between Thumper and Storm so I was the only one injured.
