So we recently adopted a 2 year old rabbit (Nina)for our 8 month old fixed rabbit (Valentino) and at first they thought she wasn’t spayed but turns out she was so she’s currently healing from that. When we first saw her at the adoption event we tried bunny dating with them and they did fantastic she was right away grooming him but he was a little grumpy (he’s always grumpy but he was especially grumpy because he missed his nap time). We brought her home 3 days ago and we blocked of an area in the house for her because he’s free ranged and that was our way of putting the cages next to each other for pre-bonding. At first for 3-4 hours he was fine with her and sniffing her through the cube grids but all of a sudden they started to fight and ever since then it’s been on again off again fights and they will lay near each other through the bars sometimes but will fight other times. I’ve alsl been switching their areas out so they each have equal time to run around the house and last night i put Val in the cubed grid area and I put Nina in the free range area and i heard loud banging that I woke up to and saw that val busted out of the area and they were both fighting and chasing each other so I put val right away in his crate and I put Nina back in her cubed grid cage. I will not be letting val to free range when I’m not home anymore and will not be putting him in the cubed grid area when I’m not home just to be safe. I also planned on starting to bond them a week after she got here to give her time to settle in . I need advice what to do with the rabbits to make this the most successful bond.

        -thank you

They should not be allowed to touch AT ALL until they’re bonding. There needs to be a 6 inch gap between cages at all times, as as you’ve seen, they can fight through bars and cause serious injury.

The new bunny needs time to settle in away from the stressful environment of a territorial existing rabbit. Can she have 2 weeks in a different room to get used to you and the new home?

Then you can move them into the same room (with gaps between cages) and start swapping them between cages for a month. If you’re still seeing aggressive behaviour, keep swapping for longer, but a month should be the minimum.

Then you can introduce them in a different room, in neutral space.

I will definitely move her immediately and I will give her two weeks ( I planned for one week because she was adjusting super quickly). Thank you for your advice!
