My 6 year old bunny is in GI stasis because he has a UTI. He hasn’t eaten in his own since Friday night (it’s now Monday) and last night he just would not swallow any critical care and he was more gassy. So I brought him to the emergency vet to hospitalize him. They filed his teeth this morning to see if that was part of the problem as well, because he seems like he wants to eat but can’t.

He hasn’t eaten anything there yet, but has finally passed a little stool. I’m just worried since my other bunny died during hospitalization.

Does anyone have any experience with bunnies bouncing back after not eating for almost a full day? Or their bunny not even swallowing his critical care and it’s just falling out of his mouth? I would just really like to know the odds for my baby getting better.

My bun just passed from stasis. He had his cecum and small intestine blocked by hair and poop( we did everything)

Did the vet do an X-ray to make sure there isn’t any blockages? An X-ray is really needed to be done in order to do proper treatment. And he might really have a uti but you need to see if his organs are blocked.

I’m sorry to hear your bun is unwell. How is he doing today?

So my vet said that blockages are so rare that she’s not going to do an X-ray but now I’m super concerned about it. I’m so sorry about your baby, I lost my other baby to gi stasis 6 months ago because she had kidney disease.

The vet filed down his teeth because he seemed like he wanted to eat but wouldn’t. And he ate some greens and pooped a little and peed, she sounded hopeful this morning when I chatted with her. She said I could pick him up tonight but she suggested he’d stay another night for monitoring so I agreed. It’s just been such a terrible time. And when I called to check up on him before bed time the receptionist said the doctor said he pooped and peed and ate a few more greens but he’s no better and no worse, just that he needs to be monitored some more.

I hope I get to speak with the vet tomorrow morning so I can know more details, such as if she really thinks his teeth were the cause or his UTI. Or both. I’m just scared to bring him home if he’s still not better because I’m scared of him getting worse and not being somewhere with immediate care.

But it’s a good sign that he’s eating on his own right? And that he’s pooping even if not as much? I understand that the vet is very busy with it being an emergency hospital (and the only exotic one in my city) but I have barely been able to talk to her personally.
