Hello! Wanted to get some advice from other long-haired rabbit owners.

I am using CareFresh natural bedding as litter. https://www.amazon.com/Carefresh-Co…DS91YXF9SH

Dharma loves it, but it is all tangled in her long belly fur (which trimming nearly kills us all! 😉

Do other long-haired rabbit owners use something different that doesn’t get wound into the fur quite so badly?

        Thanks!

I don’t have long haired buns but have you thought about using a litter screen? Wick uses a sheet of plastic knitting mesh as a diy option

Oh, I have never heard of a litter screen! Dharma loves throwing her litter around… Hmm, I will check into it. Thanks!

Indeed. Wick has four litter boxes, each with a screen on top. I also use carefresh litter and none gets on the floor or his fur. Life saver! You can find photos in the album, which is found on my user profile page here.

Another option is wood stove or equine pellets. I used to use carefresh but personally I think it gets too messy. So I started using wood stove pellets. Instead of getting soft and stuck to the litter box it just crumbles so its super easy to clean, and doesn’t get stuck anywhere

Asriel and Bombur – what brand of wood stove pellets do y’all use? I assume anything all natural is fine so long as there are no additives for flavoring, preservatives, etc.? (cuz Dharma Lou will eat it) Thanks!

Just standard pellets you can pick up at Tractor Supply. Just make sure there’s no accelerants in it. If she tries to it eat you can always add a great on top or a piece of mesh over the top to prevent it. I had mesh over the top for the first few weeks, just so I felt comfortable that the knew it wasn’t food.
