I got my first pair of buns in July this year, a buck named Buffy and a doe named Dixie. At first they were great but Dixie started getting a wet nose about a week into having her. I was worried about a respiratory infection but the only symptom she showed was a wet nose. When I took her to the vet she said she seemed healthy otherwise besides the runny nose and wasn’t even completely convinced it was a respiratory infection because her breathing sounded great. We put her on medication and she cleared up but then Buffy got the same runny nose. We took him to the vet and she said the same thing, that he was healthy besides his nose. He is now currently on meds but Dixie has a runny nose yet again. Should I take her back to the vet to get treated again? Or will it clear up on its own? Vet trips are very expensive so I’d appreciate some input.

Hi! Congrats on them! Are they both spayed and neutered? Did you see an exotic vet? My buns have pasturella, which shows up as a runny nose and never develops into anything more. They will always have it and will have flare ups but a short course of meds puts it back into hiding.

Just as an FYI, bun vet costs are very expensive so I recommend setting up a savings account just for them as a single vet visit can be very costly(I’ve spent way too much on them in the past year)
