So my little man is a year and 3 months old and he’s been litter trained since about 6 months. He’s usually pretty good, he poops around the cage but not excessive and he’s always had phases every few months of peeing outside the litterbox, but he’s usually pretty good. During these little phases he’ll pee outside the box for a day or two and then he’s back to normal. But lately he’s constantly peeing outside the box, especially near the water dish. He had GI Stasis a couple weeks ago which is when this started so I thought it was connected to that but he’s been fine for a while now and he’s still peeing outside the box multiple times a day, and a lot. He was on cisapride and meloxicam and the vet also put him on enrofloxacin in case there was a urinary problem since he was peeing outside the box (he’s had stasis 3 other times and the peeing thing never happened at the same time before) just to be safe, although she doubted there was an issue. But he’s been better for over a week now and he won’t go back to peeing in the box. The pee is usually clear too which is a bit unusual for him. I know bunny pee can range in color including clear but Benny’s is usually more orange and clear is rare. I’m so confused what’s going on. I’m assuming if it was a UTI or something that would have been taken care of after the course of meds. It’s so annoying because then he walks in the pee so it gets everywhere and he’s all dirty. I’m cleaning the cage several times a day. Is it possible he just like “forgot” to use the litterbox? He uses it sometimes so I’m not sure if it’s that. I thought maybe after being bonded with Bailey and becoming the submissive bunny he feels that she owns the box and he can’t use it, I don’t know if that kind of thing happens but they’ve been bonded a while now so I kind of doubt that. Any suggestions??

*Note: He also has been pulling hay onto the floor and peeing on that too. He’s always been messy with hay but he’s never peed on it and it seems excessive now. Not sure if that’s related.

My rabbit has done that once since he has been trained (out of sheer irritation because I changed his blanket) and he is about the same age so I doubt it has anything to do with your rabbit being old but I found a website that says that it could be a number of things but the number one reason is stated as “Your rabbit is ill. Urinary infections, bladder stones and other diseases make rabbits unreliable with the litter tray. If a previously litter trained rabbit starts missing the litter tray, it is important to consult a vet.” (catexpert.co.uk) so you should just go to the vet again and just make sure it isn’t anything other than a simple UTI. Also I saw that you mentioned having to clean a lot since your bunny started to get a weird behavior. On the same website I found that “You are cleaning the tray too much so it no longer smells like a latrine. Put back a fragment of used litter each time you have changed the tray’s contents.” I can’t tell you for sure what’s wrong with the rabbit but you should check the two things above and double check with the vet even though they don’t think anything is seriously wrong with them. Good Luck I hope there isn’t anything wrong
